JW Culture has Changed!
by Amazing inin the late 1960s, i became a jw.
there was a sense of intellectual freedom and more openness to discuss various spiritual and even some social topics.
there was reliance on watch tower literature as an authority, but still the soiciety seem to confine its concerns and left the rest up to individual jws to decide.

Actually, the monitoring was done in a more "official" capacity on the circuit and district levels. If you were a brother trying to climb the "ladder" you best believe you needed to stick to the script...especially on the district levels. If you didn't you could expect to be "clowned" and not used for awhile.
I remember this one brother who was a dynamic speaker and strayed a little from the manuscript on the district and as a result he sat for awhile. Brothers in the Chairman's office chastised him and he didn't have a part on the DA for many years. He was black-balled for awhile. Monitoring was mos-def more rigid on the district level. Circuit level afforded SOME leeway unless you got up there an cracked one too many jokes or deviated extremely from the manuscript or outline.
Of course if you were a GB, Bethel heavy, or DO you'd be exempt from most of the monitoring BS.

Legal takeover and Dismantling of the WT Possible?
by Pathofthorns inthe events of the last couple weeks with regard to the un scandal got me thinking that the time climate is increasingly right for the legal takeover and dismantling of the wt.. i know that is a crazy thought, but could it somehow be possible?
now that the gb resigned from their posts, could a rutherford-style takeover happen?.
the un scandal signifies utter betrayal of the membership.

Nov. 8 Awake - Wife Beaters-Sick
by MrMoe ini will let you all hang who ever the heck wrote this crap.
november 8, 2001 awake page 9: some battered women may need to seek assistance from the authorities.
at times, a point of crisis-such as intervention of the police-can cause an abusive man to see the seriousness of the action.. page 12: should the battered wife leave her husband?

WT get away words:
PERHAPS
MAYBE
COULD BE
LIKELY
APPEARS
SEEMLY
POSSIBLY
ETCit is with these words the wt lays out the dogmas on so many issues
so that when they need to change they can sayWE DIDN'T SAY FOR SURE OR DEFINTELY ONLY maybe
and you guys took it the rest of the way
--------------------------------------------------------------------JT, my man YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD!! It's something how they expect unequivocal loyalty to their dogmas and policies while CLOAKING them with legalistic verbiage that leaves them unaccountable when someone calls them out on it. That aspect of the WTBS has bugged the hell outta me for as long as I can remember.

The Serpent Ate the Fruit
by Black Man ini remember in one of my bethel entrants school classes, the instructor commenting on the events that went down in genesis chapter 3 and commenting that one of the reasons why the serpent was so persuasive was because he "evidently" partook of the tree of the knowledge of good and bad.
because he had taken such a course, he could persuasively convince eve to do the same.
i can't remember what source material he used to support this assertion.

And that's it was presented to me. The serpent partaking of the tree, seemingly gaining the ability to talk AND discerning what is good and bad and then presenting this offer to Eve of even GREATER ENLIGHTMENT that God did not want her to acquire. That supposedly is why the woman didn't find it so hard to believe that the snake was talking to her. The snake made it seem as if the "tree" had granted it the ability to converse and be enlightened.

Paradise - I Think I'll Pass........
by Black Man inone thing that has always kinda ticked me off with the society depiction of paradise, is the completely bland, devoid of personality, stepford wives-ish look given to paradise pics in the publications over the years.
peeps walkin' around smilin' for no reason, no attention given to a cultivation of technology, the arts, space exploration.
there never seemed to be any point to paradise.

And another thing that never computed was the supposed change back to speaking the original Hebrew language. WHY? If english was the dominant language used to re-establish christianity why change it?
Also, the concept of death still puzzles in this environment. What happens in the case of a freak accident? You accidentally fall off a building or cliff or something. You wouldn't die from that?
